Natural Hazards Research Australia (the Centre) is offering internship opportunities in two fields that are designed to improve Australia’s fire resilience and firefighting capability.
The positions are aimed to turn academic knowledge into real-world impact, and combine education with work placements. Objectives for interns include:
- capability development through hands-on experience and exposure to applying research methods and approaches to address real-world scenarios and business challenges;
- to strengthen connections with others in the natural hazards sector and build longer-term partnerships; to share knowledge and innovative approaches to addressing natural hazards, resilience and disaster risk reduction; and
- to contribute meaningful outputs and practical impact to address the host organisation's knowledge needs.
The internship projects, funded by the Centre and facilitated by Australian Postgraduate Research Intern (APR.Intern), are:
- Women in Mitigation: Identifying recruitment, retention and progression barriers to increase female representation in mitigation, with the New South Wales Rural Fire Service; and
- Optimising the type and location of aviation hubs and airbases to deliver efficient and effective aviation services, with the Queensland Fire Department.
