After winning his James Cook University 3 Minute Thesis faculty final, CRC PhD student Korah Parackal showed he can communicate his science well by being voted 'People's Choice' at the JCU inter-faculty final on 29 August.
Korah's PhD is looking at wind loads from cyclones and how roofing can fail under peak wind loads.
"To explain months of work in just three minutes without using any engineering terminology can be really difficult," said Korah.
"But the 3 minute thesis forces you to be especially clear about the relevance of your research. It is also a great chance to share the complexities and the really interesting science behind it in an accessible way," he said.
