All the recommendations of an independent review on the achievements, governance and management of the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC research program have been accepted by the CRC’s Board.
The review, conducted in May this year, spoke to many of the CRC’s partners and reviewed a large amount of published material. It found the CRC was operating in “a sound and effective manner” across its core activities with a strong network of end-user partners.
CRC CEO Dr Richard Thornton said one of the core parts of the review was about considering sustainable options for the future of the CRC. “The review made several findings that allow us to better map out the landscape of where we want our research to go in the long term.”
The CRC board has considered the recommendations and findings and has released its response. Key elements of this include a better understanding of the CRC's impact, better linkages for the education program and better articulation of the key strategic intent of the CRC.
The CRC will also do some work to better value the impacts of research coming out of the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC, which will incorporate the impacts from the former Bushfire CRC.
The review was led by Prof Mary O’Kane, accompanied by Euan Ferguson, AFSM and Dr Tracey Arklay.
