All things fire will be in focus at the 6th International Fire Behaviour and Fuels Conference, with the program just announced.
Taking place from 29 April to 3 May 2019 at the International Convention Centre, Sydney, the program has a clearemphasis on bushfire behaviour, fire prediction software and all thingsfuels and fuel modification. Delegates will hear experts showcase research and share lessons learned, alongside streams covering fire ecology, fire weather and risk modelling.
The National Fire Danger Ratings System research prototype and its impacts featurein a dedicated stream and plenary panel on the final day of the conference.
Run by the International Association of Wildland Fire, the conference will run concurrently in Sydney,Marseille (France) and Albuquerque (United States). The keynote sessions will be live streamed between locations, adding a truly global flavour to this triennial conference.
Community recovery expert Anne Leadbeater will be live-streamed with France, and Prof Jeremy Russell-Smith will speak to Sydney and Albuquerque delegates on fire ecology, community resilience and the carbon market in the northern savannas in his keynote address.
Details of two exciting panels will be announced soon. The first will follow a keynote from Dr Neil Burrows, exploring the topic ‘When does the science become useful?’. The second panel will open the final day of the conference, where panellists streamed between Sydney and Albuquerque will discuss how organisations benefit when women’s careers in fire and fire science thrive.
The Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC is a lead partner in the Sydney conference, alongside the New South Wales Rural Fire Service and the Bureau of Meteorology.
