Better warnings, living with fire and using data to inform decisions are the three key areas of CRC research highlighted in the latest edition of Fire Australia.
The third issue of the magazine is now available for digital download. It also features articles on the launch of the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition and a wrap up of the Fire Australia Conference and Tradeshow.
CRC researchers from the Effective risk and warning communication during natural hazards project detail findings of their research into how conflicting cues impact emergency warnings. Dr Paula Dootson, A/Prof Dominique Greer, Sophie Miller and Prof Vivienne Tippett from Queensland University of Technology have studied conflicting cues, finding that information processing of risk perceptions can prevent appropriate protective action.
A new data analysis tool has been developed by CRC researchers from the University of Adelaide in order to assist the South Australian Fire and Emergency Services Commission (SAFECOM). The tool, commissioned by SAFECOM, is being used to visually assess the resources and utilisation of the South Australian emergency services and used to assess future capability and capacity.
Fire Australia is a joint publication of the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC, AFAC and the Fire Protection Association Australia. Find this and previous editions of Fire Australia at www.bnhcrc.com.au/news/fire-australia.
