Best Paper in 2021 awarded to CRC researchers

The Australian Geographer’s Dorothy R Taylor Award for Best Paper in 2021 has been awarded to Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC researchers for their paper documenting their experiences creating a cultural burning program supported by a government agency.

The research team from the Hazards, culture and Indigenous communities project, comprising Dean Freeman (ACT Parks and Conservation Service), Bhiamie Williamson (Australian National University) and Dr Jessica Weir (Western Sydney University), received the award for their paper, Cultural burning and public sector practice in the Australian Capital Territory.

The Australian Geographer is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal published by the Geographical Society of New South Wales. Each year, the editors of the Australian Geographer award a $500 cash prize to the winner of the Dorothy R Taylor Award for Best Paper published overall in a calendar year.

The winners were announced in an online awards Ceremony on 10 December that was broadcast on the Society’s social media channels and website homepage. Replay here.
