This year Adelaide will host the largest and most important emergency services and public safety conference in Australasia. Held at the Adelaide Convention Centre from 1-4 September on the banks of the River Torrens, the theme for this year’s conference is New Directions in Emergency Management.
Conferencing activities have been scheduled across four days to allow delegates to explore the conference theme and topics. Activities include:
All-hazards Research Forum: 1 September
Two day conference: 2-3 September
Gala dinner: 3 September
Six post conference development sessions: 4 September
The program will further be augmented by the 6000sqm conference exhibition space that will feature more than 90 leading industry manufacturers and research posters.
CEO of the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC Dr Richard Thornton believes the conference shows why research and innovation are more important now than ever.
“The 2014 Research Forum, our first, was a sell out. It is great to see the industry interested in the research that is underway. The 2015 conference will again see Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC research on show, helping emergency management agencies across Australia and New Zealand find ways to use science to make our communities safer. Excitingly, a number of new initiatives have also been planned for Adelaide to further expand the reach of this research,” said Dr Thornton.
The Research Forum is not just for scientists – it is a great opportunity for emergency management personnel and end users to learn about the current research and connect with researchers.
The Research Forum emphasises the diversity of the research being conducted across all hazards, and will provide the opportunity for focused discussions between the research community and emergency managers on industry issues.
Topics covered will include the latest research into severe weather, community safety, heatwaves, flood risk, infrastructure planning, fire modelling and volunteer management
