Fire weather and prescribed burning experts will discuss their work in detail in workshops and field trips in Sydney from next month.
Limited places are still available for workshops and field trips that form part of the 6th International Fire Behaviour and Fuels Conference, Sydney. Register now or add to your existing registration at: http://sydney.firebehaviorandfuelsconference.com/registration/
Pre-conference workshops
Sydney delegates can choose from two exciting workshops taking place on Monday 29 April.
‘Workshop 1 - Practical application of fire & fuels research in prescribed burning’ is a research forum of the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC run in partnership with the Centre of Excellence in Prescribed Burning. This full day workshop will bring together planners, practitioners and researchers to explore how the knowledge emerging from research programs across Australia is influencing our landscape management.
Hosted by the Bureau of Meteorology ‘Workshop 2 - Fire weather’ encourages participation of a board audience - including meteorologists, fire practitioners and researchers - to discuss the use of ensembles in fire weather forecasting and the impact of downslope winds in fire.
Post-conference field trips
Two post-conference field trips are also available to Sydney conference delegates to attend on Friday 3 May.
Sydney delegates can visit iconic Blue Mountains fire management sites by registering to join ‘Field trip 1 – From wilderness to western Sydney: managing fires and fuels across the diverse landscapes of the Blue Mountains’. This overnight field trip is sponsored by the Office of Environment and Heritage NSW to keep costs at a minimum to attendees.
Delegates will investigate unusual weather and unusual fire behaviour on ‘Field trip 2 - Fire behaviour analysis tools & techniques’, sponsored by New South Wales Rural Fire Service. The field trip will be of value to researchers and practitioners with an interest in fire behaviour, fire weather, smoke and air pollution, and fire in the urban interface.
Take advantage of all this triennial conference has to offer. Register to secure your attendance at one of these workshops or field trips today. See the full conference program at: http://sydney.firebehaviorandfuelsconference.com/program/
