EVN webinar four - planning for spontaneous volunteers with Volunteering Qld - 22 May 2019

In this webinar, our researcher Dr Blythe McLennan from RMIT University joins Amanda Nixon and Katherine Green from Volunteering Queensland to discuss how can local organisations build capability and plan for the use of spontaneous disaster volunteers, and what management models are being developed and applied by councils in Queensland. This webinar took place on 22 May. Volunteering Queensland has developed extensive experience and partnerships in the volunteer/disaster sector over the past 11 years, through implementing the EV CREW program as well as community disaster resilience projects. This experience has helped identify the difficulties faced by local governments, local disaster management groups and their partners in managing and coordinating spontaneous disaster volunteers. Through this webinar Amanda and Katherine share: • Learnings from Volunteering Queensland's most recent projects that focus on building/improving local and council capability to manage spontaneous disaster volunteers • Key considerations in planning for the use and management of spontaneous disaster volunteers • Examples of the emerging models being used by different councils for the management of spontaneous disaster volunteers, in a Queensland context.
