Over recent years there has been an increased realisation of the importance of improving community resilience in relation to natural hazards. Some initial work has been undertaken within the bushfire domain regarding the definition of community and the identification of some of the barriers to community resilience, both at the community and household level.
Our research objective is to build on this work and increase the understanding of both the concept of a resilient community and the barriers to resilience across natural hazards. This will greatly assist with the development of policy and approaches to working with communities.
