CRC researchers, Andrew Gissing, Katharine Haynes and Lucinda Coates have received a highly commended award for their presentation at the 2016 Floodplain Management Australia (FMA) conference.
Their paper, ‘An Analysis of Human Fatalities from Flood Hazards in Australia 1900-2015’, was presented by Andrew on behalf of the team and drew on the team’s research project An analysis of building losses and human fatalities from natural disasters.
Andrew, Katharine and Lucinda are from the Risk Frontiers centre at Macquarie University and have undertaken a comprehensive study of all flood related deaths that have occurred in Australia since 1900.
The FMA conference took place from 17-20 May 2016 in Nowra, New South Wales and brought together flood risk research from across Australia and overseas. The team will be formally presented with their award at the next FMA Quarterly meeting in August.
