Australian Institute of Disaster Resilience launch November 2015 Andrew Coghlan
Episode 19 of the Emergency Management Australia (EMA) podcast is now available and celebrates one year of the Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience (AIDR).
AIDR brings together its founding partners the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC, AFAC, the Australian Red Cross and the Attorney-General’s Department. The Institute was launched last year to deliver a fresh approach to emergency management education, professional development and knowledge sharing for a disaster-resilient Australia.
In the podcast Director-General of EMA, Mark Crosweller, talks about why AIDR was established and AIDR Director John Bates talks about what has been achieved during AIDR’s first year and what’s planned for the future.
The podcast highlights the Australian Journal of Emergency Management, one of the key publications produced by AIDR. Dr Richard Thornton, CEO of the CRC, talks about the CRC’s role in contributing to the research featured in the Journal as well as being a founding partner of AIDR. AFAC CEO Stuart Ellis also spoke about the unique opportunity AIDR presents in bringing knowledge across emergency management and disaster resilience into one consolidated source of information.
The podcast also features Andrew Coghlan, National Manager of Emergency Services at Australian Red Cross speaking about the Red Cross’ role in AIDR and their RediPlan, a useful preparedness guide for disasters.
