A new case study of bushfire, earthquake and coastal inundation will take place in Western Australia thanks to funding through the Commonwealth Government's Natural Disaster Resilience Program.
The case study will develop a decision support system for Western Australia, focusing on the south west, from Gingin south to Augusta-Margaret River and east to Boyup Brook. This will include the Perth metropolitan area.
The research will use a framework for the assessment of policy and planning investment options, to help West Australian emergency managers and local governments think through the costs and consequences of various options on preparing for major disasters on their infrastructure and natural environments, and how these might change into the future. Training and utilisation pathways will also be developed to assist the application of the decision support system for end-users.
