Briefing to enhance policy

Around 50 people from across the ACT were briefed in May on several key research projects underway at the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC.
The breakfast research briefing was held to coincide with a regular CRC Board meeting on 17 May and aimed to show how these projects could be imbedded into planning, policies and operations of agencies and government departments.
The forum provided an opportunity for people working across the several different areas of federal and territory government, emergency service agencies, research organisations, and community groups to meet with the researchers and discuss how the work was relevant.
Dr Mel Parsons, University of New England, opened the program with an update of the Australian Disaster Resilience Index. Prof Alan March, University of Melbourne, followed with a summary of his project on urban planning for natural hazards mitigation.
Leesa Carson, Geoscience Australia, spoke about the built environment cluster of projects, then Dr Marta Yebra, introduced her new online tool for fuels and forest flammability.
