Two new research opportunities are available, and Expressions of Interest (EOIs) are currently being sought for projects that will be undertaken for the Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP).
Developing strategic intelligence technology and capability for the environmental compliance regulator - closing 19 July 2019
This research will seek to generate strategic intelligence from data sources to create new and unique ways of managing resources and reducing harm. It willexplore new and emerging technologies to further develop DELWP’s ability to undertake environmental scanning to more proactively identify emerging trends, patterns and connections that will enable a better understanding of drivers and interactions within the environment. It will also develop a system of capabilities – systems, tools and capacity – for DELWP to capture, analyse and use data in more dynamic ways to assess the performance and functioning of its environmental compliance regulatory systems. More infomation is available here.
Update to the Wood and Water study- closing 19 July 2019
This project will conduct a review of a previous study completed in 2008, and update it as required. This project will look at the findings of the Wood and Water project conducted by DEWLP in 2008, incorporating new scientific findings and/or data available since this project was completed. This includes assessing the previous form of water yield impact modelling in Melbourne’s catchment regions and if it remains current in light offire, logging and other disturbances since 2008, rainfall conditions, impacts to water yield and quality and expected fire behaviour changes due to climate change.
The result of this project will be a desktop review of the 2008 Wood and Water study, using both past data and future data to present an updated report that will improve the Victorian Government’s understanding of the relationship between logging and water quality in Melbourne’s catchments. More infomation is available here.
Submitting a proposal
Further details on these projects and instructions of the requirements of these EOIs can be found here. Any interested parties are encouraged to put forward a proposal. Responses are due by midnight on 19 July 2019.
Researchers are also encouraged to provide a consortium approach. In this case one party would be nominated as the lead research organisation and have overall responsibility for project delivery.
