Nick Ireland

Nick Ireland is the Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change adaptation Manager for Save the Children.  With over 15 years experience working in humanitarian and development programs, Nick has worked over the world in countries including South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia, Angola, Chad, Ethiopia, El Salvador, Haiti, Pakistan, Philippines, Cambodia, Laos and Indonesia.

Nick started his career in humanitarian work in 1997 as a field based logistician before eventually becoming a Country Director, and then Regional Emergency Coordinator. In the past six-years Nick has moved from managing emergency responses to focusing on ways of working with governments and communities to both reduce the impacts of natural hazards like earthquakes and cyclones as well as to build the adaptive capacity of communities to the projected impacts of climate change. He’s now based in Melbourne and heads a team of 4 Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Advisors.
