Dr Graeme Riddell, University of Adelaide, leads the Victorian training workshop on the UNHaRMED decision support system
Sophisticated modelling software is being used by the South Australian Government to explore current and future coastal flood risk in Port Adelaide.
The software was developed by the CRC project Improved decision support for natural hazard risk reduction. The UNHaRMED decision support system is a modelling platform that integrates various hazard models and calculates risk dynamically using demographic, infrastructure and environmental data to explore how disaster risk changes into the future.
The South Australian State Mitigation Trial Exercise held on 16 August used the UNHaRMED spatial decision support system.
Research leader Prof Holger Maier and Dr Graeme Riddell of University of Adelaide led the exercise in Adelaide with more than 40 participants from state and local government.
The exercise was completed in two phases, where the first was aimed at gaining a greater understanding of the current and future coastal flooding risk in Port Adelaide, and the second explored coastal flood risk mitigation options, the issues associated with these options and the range of implementation approaches.
The next workshop is scheduled for later in the year.
