Learning from the past, planning for the future

Hazard Note 9 is an overview of the Scenario and loss analysis cluster of research projects. The cluster has two linked studies:

• An analysis of building losses and human fatalities from natural disasters
• Using realistic disaster scenario analysis to understand natural hazard impacts and emergency management requirements

This Hazard Note, available to download on the right, details the aim of each project, the work completed to date and the outcomes so far. More information about each project is available on the project pages, including completed reports referred to in the Hazard Note.

Additionally, the short videos below feature researcher Andrew Gissing and end user Simon Opper (NSW SES) talking about the aims of each project and how the outcomes will help emergency service agencies measure the effect of policies and prepare for natural disasters beyond our current experience.
